REV 1.5 OSPREY PACK – REVIEW

Big smile on my face just before I went for the last round at Spitfire Scramble 24h running event.

With a team of 8 we managed to complete 23 laps while camping and having lots of fun.

For my previous adventures I was training with a hydration pack before. Therefore I was very excited when I was offered to try out Osprey Trail Running Pack as it is quite different to my current one.

During the summer I ran 1x a week to work (6km) and using a 20l rucksack with hydration pack. This is ideal as I can fit in my work clothes. However on the weekend when I was running in the park, I found it unpractical running with an empty rucksack.

At the Spitfire Scramble race I decided to fill 0.5l water/electrolyte into the 1.5l hydration pack which will be enough to take a few sips throughout the 10k run. Very clever and ideal during the run having a magnetic bite valve in the middle of your chest strap. It never fell off and was easy to grab when needed.

It is very light. On all 3 runs during the race I hardly realised it. I would describe it as a snug fit onto my back, flat but also with its different pockets ideal to have my keys, gel and snacks in it. A very special attention I have to bring to the mobile pocket which is in front of the shoulder strap. It flips over. I love it! It’s called DigiFlip™ pocket and made from TPU film. My Iphone 6 fit in and I still could operate the touch screen. Brilliant as I was only using the Runtastic app to record my runs.

Classic handover for a relay race. Corey was wearing the same pack in blue size M/L.

You can see how mine fits perfectly on my back in S/M.

There is no rubbing possible. I think in this picture you can actually see that the shape of the pack leaves enough space around shoulders and arm. The only downside is that you eventually feel hot at your back, but can’t avoid that as you are wearing an extra layer on top. I’m used to running with a rucksack, that doesn’t bother me.

Do you sometimes think that all the straps to pull especially around the hip is just annoying? You try to find the best fit and tighten, loosen and tighten again. Well, not with this pack! Once you had it on and you set all the straps in place, next time you only have to put it on like a waistcoat and clip in the middle and you are ready to run. Brilliant!

I enjoyed running with my new REV 1.5 OSPREY PACK during this race and looking forward to finally have the ideal size for my longer runs in the park.

PRO

  • Super light
  • Great fit especially for a small women who has challenges to find the right size.
  • Smart DigiFlip™ pocket for phone, Ipod etc. (my favourite feature)
  • High quality magnetic bite valve.
  • Wear it like a waistcoat – no more adjusting for the next run. (my favourite feature)

CON

  • Getting hot at the back due to an extra layer you are wearing.

Thanks for reading. All of the above is my opinion, honest and my own one.
