BERLIN MARATHON: Countdown week 14

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

Business, business, business … Last week I was bogged down by work and on top I got a cold. London’s weather was just so typically rainy. Everyone sneezing in the tube and in the office. Unfortunately no training for me.

Never train when you are ill as it’s not good for your heard. Being ill means REST! I just had to except it. Somehow I didn’t start to panic, although I new I would not run for maybe a week. The last Half Marathon in Edinburgh gave me a solid running base and also a good mental strength.

Week 14 was busy at work but dead quiet in terms of training, but I got my weekly challenge still on!

CHALLENGE WEEK 14 = No meat

I did not quite go for full Vegetarian. The first few days I had fish but after that I had vegetables, pasta and quinoa dishes. One day my team and I went for lunch. I looked at the menu and realised that I always choose a dish with chicken or beef. I was so used to it that it felt strange to go for a fish option. Don’t get me wrong, I like fish, but when I eat out I always choose meat.

A few days later, I didn’t even think about a meaty dish, I enjoyed cooking new recipes from the latest #HemsleyandHemsley cooking book.

Feeling not well and not being able to exercise was the worst that can happen, I thought. But then I had another idea. Being home on the weekend and just resting on the sofa, why not taking the no meat and nearly vegetarian challenge a step further…

DETOX! THE NEXT CHALLENGE

Lunch:

  • 2 apples,
  • 1 slice of lemon,
  • 1 inch of cucumber,
  • 1 stick celery,
  • 1 inch ginger

Two days of Detoxing done and I felt super healthy. A little headache came up, but that is normal as the body reacts to not having the usual coffee and sweets etc. Normally a Detox would be much longer or at least 3 days in a row to be able to flush out all the toxins. I might do it again. Sunday night I really fancied cooking a nice dinner. And it was vegetarian!

What an unusual and not fitness related foodie week I had. I can’t wait to get my next run in!
